Palmetto Bay, Florida
The Village of Palmetto Bay-Miami is bordered by SW 136 Street on the north, the city of Coral Gables and Biscayne Bay on the east, SW 184 Street on the south and South Dixie Highway on the west. This region incorporates East Perrine and Cutler, two communities that were formerly independent census-designated places. In the 2000 census, East Perrine had a population of 7,079, while Cutler had a population of 17,390. In 2002, both were incorporated into the Village of Palmetto Bay-Miami.
Area Parks
Palmetto Bay-Miami has five locally-managed parks, plus two county-operated parks. Coral Reef Park covers 52 acres, providing the family-oriented population with the space needed to play sports, picnic, relax or just enjoy the outdoors. Additional play areas and sports courts are available at Palmetto Bay-Miami Park, a 27-acre site.
Landmarks & Attractions
Miami-Dade County manages the Deering Estate at Cutler and Bill Sadowski Park. The estate of Charles Deering is probably Palmetto Bay’s most recognized landmark and recreational facility. Over 444 acres in size, the estate encompasses a diverse set of plant life and ecosystems, as well as some of the state’s oldest structures. Visitors can explore a pine rockland habitat, salt marshes and mangrove forests. Points of interest at the Deering Estate include original buildings dating back to 1896, Native American burial grounds and archaeological dig sites.
Recreation
Bill Sadowski Park is a 30-acre site featuring tropical trees, a live animal exhibit with a massive freshwater aquarium, a nature trail and canoeing and fishing spots. A popular local resource, Bill Sadowski Park is enjoyed by students, teaching groups, wildlife interest groups and other nature enthusiasts.
